You can search, use filters, read quiz answers and send feedback when you reject all analytics. Using these features does not constitute consent. The terms of use are separate from privacy preferences.
Optional internal statistics
Only with your consent to this category, AskMonty records submitted searches, words, language, filters, result counts, the first 24 result IDs and opened resources with their links. Visits to episode pages are distinguished from clicks to listen at the original source. This helps us understand popular topics, improve the catalogue and review search terms and filtering rules. We do not record keystrokes or build a history linked to an account or visitor profile.
A filter masks emails, long numeric sequences and some key formats, but cannot recognise every kind of personal information. Search for topics, guests, titles or events. Do not enter private contact details, passwords or confidential information about yourself or other people. We do not describe this free text as necessarily anonymous. Statistics tables do not add IP addresses or persistent visitor identifiers. Each event has a random ID to prevent duplicates.
Records stay private. The intended standard retention for new records is 180 days, to allow analysis and further review of search terms: older records are removed on the next event in the same collection, so they may remain longer if no new events occur. Records collected under previous consent versions retain their 90-day period. Administrators periodically review terms and filtering rules, setting priorities and frequency according to operational needs and identified anomalies, without a fixed schedule. Reviews may lead to earlier removal of irrelevant personal information and do not suspend the deletion of expired records. Quiz results are described below. These statistics are not used for personalised advertising.
Google Analytics: a separate choice
Only with specific consent to Google Analytics do we load the Google tag and enable its cookies. We measure visits and interactions; we do not send search text, URL parameters or quiz answers. Google may process cookie identifiers and technical data under its own notice. Advertising features and Google Signals are disabled. You may accept internal statistics and reject Google Analytics, or choose the reverse.
Optional statistical processing relies on consent. Withdraw it through “Cookie and analytics preferences” in every page footer, as easily as you granted it. Withdrawal stops subsequent submissions and removes Analytics cookies accessible to this site; it does not undo earlier processing or automatically delete previous records. Searches and answers made before consent are not sent retrospectively.
Reports and suggestions
When you choose to send a message, we store its category, text, page path without search parameters, language and date. Each submission has an identifier to prevent duplicates. We do not request your name or email or associate the message with a visitor profile. The text may still contain personal information, so please avoid including it. Messages remain private, are not sent to Google Analytics or Marco Montemagno, and are kept for project review until the operator deletes them. You can send a message even when you decline analytics.
Your language is remembered in a preference cookie (askmonty.language, one year) and on this device. On your first visit we use your browser’s language preferences; the /it or /en URL prefix always takes precedence.
YouTube videos
The player is inactive until you choose to load it. Clicking connects to youtube-nocookie.com in privacy-enhanced mode. YouTube may receive your IP address, device information and the site origin, without the page path or search query. Playback is subject to Google’s settings and privacy policy. This choice applies to the current player and does not enable AskMonty analytics. Close the player to stop the connection; data already sent is not erased. If you consented to analytics, we record the opening click and resource, not player controls or viewing duration.
Project email and reCAPTCHA
If the operator enables notifications, a copy of reports and suggestions is sent through SMTP to info@thinkittech.co.uk, using the same sender address. We never email visitors. The private queue stores only the message reference and delivery-attempt status; deleting the message also deletes its queue entry. The operator manages the retention of email copies separately.
If reCAPTCHA is configured, the form asks you to load Google’s spam check before submitting. Your browser contacts Google only after that choice; Google may process your IP address and technical data under its policy. The server verifies a temporary token without sending your message text or your IP address in the optional field. Tokens are not stored. This check is separate from analytics.
Grid/list display is a local preference. After a refusal, search and quiz actions do not prompt you to consent again.
Abuse protection
To limit spam and excessive requests, the PHP version uses the network address to calculate a temporary, secret-key-protected code that changes daily. Security counters do not store the original address, searches or messages. Counters expire within an hour and are removed on the next valid API request. They are separate from analytics and necessary even when analytics is declined. Application logs contain only generic error codes; the hosting provider may maintain separate technical logs.
Monty moments
You can play and read all answers without accepting analytics. Only with consent to internal statistics, revealing an answer saves the quiz ID and revision, chosen option (or none), correct/incorrect/skipped outcome, language and time. A random attempt ID prevents duplicates; it does not identify the visitor. The server calculates the outcome. Records stay private; those older than 180 days (90 days for previous consent versions) are deleted on the next quiz-result write. We do not send quiz results to Google Analytics or Marco Montemagno. We use counts to assess question difficulty and answer distribution, without evaluating a personal knowledge profile. Playing again counts as a new attempt: statistics do not measure unique people and cover only consenting participants. Answers to other curiosities and prompts stay on your device. For this visit, your device remembers which cards appeared to avoid repetition. “Maybe later” saves only a local preference that pauses automatic appearances for 24 hours; the manual button remains available. These preferences are separate from analytics consent.
Cookies and browser storage
We use both cookies and browser storage. Analytics preferences, saved in askmonty.analytics.v3 with their date and version, remain valid for one year unless changed or cleared earlier. Previous refusals are respected; internal-statistics consent with 90-day retention is requested again for the new duration. Previous Google-only choices remain valid. Closing the initial banner or pressing Escape keeps analytics off. Closing existing preferences without saving keeps the last choice. If we cannot save your choice, analytics remain off.
- askmonty.language: language; a one-year cookie and a local storage preference.
- askmonty.catalogue-layout.v1: grid or list; local storage until changed or cleared.
- askmonty.moments.session.v1: cards already shown in the tab session. askmonty.moments.preferences.v1: pause automatic appearances for 24 hours; the entry may remain in local storage until cleared.
- _ga and _ga_*: Google Analytics cookies, only with its consent; default lifetime up to two years, subject to configuration, withdrawal and browser limits. Google data retention is separate from cookie lifetime.
Security, recipients and rights
Service protection and handling feedback pursue the legitimate interest in keeping AskMonty secure and responding to contributions. Technical security counters are separate from optional statistics and do not contain searches. The temporary code derived from a network address is a pseudonymisation measure, not a guarantee of anonymity.
Private data is accessible to the operator and providers of the services used, such as hosting and email. Google receives data for its services when you enable them. These services may involve processing outside the United Kingdom or European Economic Area; Google’s processing and transfer information is linked below. Photographs loaded from Marco Montemagno’s official site connect your browser to that site, which may receive technical request data.
You may request access, correction, erasure, restriction and, where applicable, portability of your data; you may object to processing based on legitimate interests. Write to info@thinkittech.co.uk with information helpful to locate your request, without sending excessive data. As there are no accounts, some events may not be attributable to you: we will explain any limits. You may complain to the UK ICO or the authority competent for your case, including the Italian Garante where applicable.
